Environment

Something very important is where you are keeping your slug! We are going to walk though what a slugs environment should look like!

What’s in a slugs environment?

 1. Soil, soil is very important! If you have a big tank I recommend 2 inches of soil. If you want to go in above and beyond for your pet slug then put six or more inches of soil, this will allow them to burrow! Also there is a lot of types of soils you can use the ones I recommend are Coco fiber there is a lot of different brands but the ones I recommend out of those brands are Eco Earth and THRIVE.

2. Moss, moss is very important to keep the humidity levels at the right temperature. It’s just like if you were to snuggle with your favorite blanket that’s how comfy moss is for them!

3. Climbing things, climbing things can range from small mossy huts too hanging leaves! This is the part where you can use a bit of your imagination but also your budget to buy things for your pet slug! Some of the items you can put in the slugs enclosure is.. Sticks, Rocks, Huts-(as in Mulch, Shells, even huts you can find at your location pet store-that are safe!), Hanging leaves (the ones you can stick with a suction cup). I think I have told you quite a bit. There are probably more things you can put in their tank to enrich them if you are having problems picking things out please Gmail me and send me a picture of the item you’re not sure to buy I will tell you if it’s slug safe or not!

4. Food & water, food and water is very important. For more info on food go to the food slide. And if you’re wondering about water this is how it works, it’s from when you spray them they can climb up on the glass and drink some of the water this is also another reason why it’s very important to spray your slug!

A little more about cages…

If you have a small slug you can just put them in a container and poke holes with a needle. The container needs to be a decent size even though they are small. Now if you get a leopard slug I recommend getting a 20 gallon tank or bigger! And for the lid you can either make it with plastic or you can buy one but you need to be very careful with the hole size, If the hole size is too big then your slug will get out! You can also add plastic to the top of the lid you bought to keep the humidity levels in.
